Viking & Medieval Battles

At this year’s Timahoe Heritage Festival, you’ll have the chance to witness a spectacle of Viking reenactment battles, and Medieval Armoured Combat reenactments. On June 1st and 2nd, we’ll be hosting a series of ferocious battles featuring Viking warriors, monks, knights, local chieftains and their warriors!

All our reenactors have been carefully selected for their skills and knowledge of Viking & Medieval warfare, and they’ll be clad in authentic period costumes and gear. You’ll be transported back in time to witness the battles, complete with the clash of swords, the thud of axes hitting shields, and the roar of the crowd. All this takes place on the site of the original viking raid on the monastic settlement in Timahoe in 919!

Times for June 1st & 2nd

Viking Battles followed by Kids Viking Training & Battle: 13:00 & 15:00

Medieval Armoured Combat Ireland – Knights Battles at 14:00 & 16:00

In addition to the battles, you’ll have the chance to see Viking life up close with demonstrations of Viking crafts, weaponry and skills. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the Vikings from our knowledgeable guides and historians.

We encourage everyone to come out and witness this unique event, which promises to be both educational and entertaining, and our kid’s battalion who so successfully defeated the raiders last year, is always looking for new recruits
