History of Rune Reading

Rune reading is an ancient form of divination that has its roots in Nordic and Germanic cultures. Runes were originally used as a system of writing, with each symbol representing a letter of the alphabet. However, over time, runes came to be associated with magic and mysticism, and were used for divination purposes. Rune readers would cast or draw the runes and interpret their meanings based on the symbols that were revealed.

The earliest known runic inscriptions date back to the 2nd century AD, and rune reading likely developed as a form of divination during the Viking Age (800-1100 AD). In Norse mythology, Odin, the god of wisdom and magic, is said to have gained knowledge of the runes by sacrificing himself and hanging from the world tree Yggdrasil for nine days and nights.

Rune reading was popular throughout the Viking Age and continued to be practiced in northern Europe until the Middle Ages. Today, rune reading remains a popular form of divination and spiritual practice, with many people using runes for guidance, self-discovery, and personal growth. While the meanings of the runes have evolved over time and may vary depending on the individual reader, the practice of rune reading continues to be a fascinating and powerful tool for exploring the mysteries of the universe.
